Magma

This richly textured abstract pits cool blues against underlying glimpses of scorching magma. The volcanic sculpture is constructed of matte super heavy gel. I pierced the top, opened the peak with a palette knife and pulled back the sides as if peeling an orange. This was a fun piece to create, extending beyond the use of brushes and paint. This piece offers the observer an endless array of interpretive prompts.  Sides painted.  Wire attached, ready to hang. 20″W x 20″H x 1.5″D

Eye See You

I set out to create an eye. It ended up rather fun and whimsical, but we all know there’s more than meets the Eye. Is it watching, observing, judging, or protecting? Maybe it’s just gazing, dreaming, staring, or sleeping. No matter what we think it’s doing, it’s doing something from its spot on the wall. Eye See You!  Wire attached, ready to hang. Some texture in iris and pupil. 20″W x 20″H x 1.5″D

Debbie Gibson

Oftentimes in naming a piece, the artist has to surrender to the very first thing that comes to mind once it’s complete. It presents itself so quickly and effortlessly that you can’t deny it – even if you can’t really explain it. This is what happened with Debbie Gibson. Even this child of the 80s (who never listened to Debbie Gibson) is at a loss for explanation. Maybe it’s the colors? This piece was created with pouring medium and acrylic paints. The painting extends to the sides. When you view this piece from a side angle, you see the ghostly impression of 2 faint circles. No hardware attached for hanging, very light weight.

Cliffhanger

This is the first installment of the Cliffhanger series. This evocative abstract brings to life the majestic nature of mountains and the mystery of treacherous rocky terrain. The dramatic texture was created with matte super heavy gel and crackle paste. The earthy fissures and unexpected crevices of this piece invite the eyes to take a look around and the mind to explore a little further. 24″W x 24″H x 1.4″D

Bouncy Ball Deconstructed

by loveyou· October 13, 2015· in · 0 comments
This piece was a blast to create. I set out to produce a multi-piece installation using nine individual 8”x 8” canvases, primary paint colors, and pouring medium. After the canvases were complete, I observed the piece as a whole and was immediately transported back to the unlikely memory of a childhood bouncy ball. It’s a far cry from today’s techie toys but still a not too distant memory of slower, simpler days. 9 individual 8” x 8” x .75” canvases. Some surface imperfections due to the nature of the pouring medium, gravity, etc. There’s no right way to hang these, only infinite possibilities – thus, no wire attached.

Pods

It’s important to know the kind of energies that went into the making of the art. This was quite a tactile experience as I applied the paints directly to the canvas with my hands. It’s a sensory experience that I truly appreciated and enjoyed, as I was able to blend, push, drag, and manipulate the paints in ways that are dulled through use of other tools. The canvas was prepped with random flat spreads of matte super heavy gel that adds to the texture. There’s a lot of joy in this piece! 36″W x 36″H x 1.5″D

Seashore

I created this piece to welcome the warm weather of Summer that will soon be upon us. My inspiration for this piece is the beautiful Atlantic ocean and coastal waterways of the region. I am blessed to see the ocean everyday. This piece invokes a sense of calm and depicts the sometimes serene nature of water. This is a simple piece, acrylic on canvas. Molding paste creates a fun texture for the sandy coastline. I really like the point of view in this painting, it’s kind of dreamy; is that a stairway of water leading to the sky? Or are we flying and turning at an angle? There’s no one else on the beach, let’s head that way. 18″W x 18″W x 1.4″D
